DIMITRI'S STORY

IN HONOR OF DIMITRI MAMCZUR

Dimitri House was founded in honor of Dimitri Mamczur, a local man who lived in two taped-together cardboard boxes under an expressway bridge on I-590 in Rochester. On a cold, rainy night in 1985, Dimitri was walking back to his humble shelter when he was hit by a car. Sadly, he passed away two weeks later.

More than 150 people attended Dimitri’s funeral to say goodbye and celebrate his life. People who knew him shared stories about his generosity and friendship. Many were touched by Dimitri’s story and made a commitment to do more for the homeless and underserved in Rochester.

HONORING A LEGACY

Today, we continue to honor Dimitri by helping our neighbors in need with grace and compassion, lessening the impacts of poverty and housing instability. Formed as an outreach ministry in 1985 and incorporated in 2000, we offer food, housing, and a variety of drop-in services to our Rochester neighbors in need of a helping hand.

Annually, Dimitri House serves more than 16,000 adults, children, and seniors who are experiencing difficult situations; some of whom are homeless and vulnerable — just like Dimitri.

40 YEARS OF COMPASSIONATE SERVICE

A PERSONALIZED APPROACH

With four decades of service to the community, Dimitri House has evolved from Corpus Christi's Supper Program for Homeless Men into a provider of permanent housing solutions. Our transformation reflects a deep commitment to addressing the root causes of homelessness and empowering individuals and families to achieve stability and independence.

While Dimitri House remains a smaller organization, we view this as an advantage, allowing us to cultivate deeper connections with our clients and offer highly personalized support tailored to their unique circumstances.

OUR TEAM

With limited full-time staff and no service revenues aside from subsidized rent, our dedicated volunteers, community partners, and philanthropic supporters are vital to helping us save lives.
